Radiation therapy was one of the most emotionally challenging parts of my breast cancer journey. The treatment itself was pain-free, but being immobilized on the treatment table, holding my breath repeatedly to protect my heart from radiation exposure, and feeling vulnerable in my body brought up unexpected trauma responses.
As a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, I found that the immobility triggered emotions I thought I had already worked through. Throughout the 15 radiation sessions, tapping became my lifeline. It helped me regulate overwhelming emotions, voice my needs, and stay present one treatment session at a time.
