In today’s world, we’re constantly encouraged to work harder, achieve more, and acquire more. While striving for success can be motivating, many of us push ourselves so hard that we risk our health and well-being. The result? Burnout.
This was my experience. Growing up in a hardworking family, I learned early that pushing through hardships was the way of life. My parents were factory workers with low wages, and I internalised the belief that to be worthy and survive, I had to work hard and never rest. This mindset was reinforced by the responsibility I felt for my sister, who has an intellectual disability. From a young age, I believed I had to be independent and avoid adding to my parents’ stress, which led me to neglect self-care and avoid vulnerability.
As an adult, these beliefs continued to shape my behaviour. In my career as a social worker, I pushed myself relentlessly, believing my worth was tied to how much I could achieve. But eventually, the pressure caught up with me, and I found myself burned out.
It wasn’t until I discovered clinical Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) in 2018 that I began to identify and understand these deep-rooted beliefs driving me. EFT helped me uncover and release limiting beliefs that were fuelling my burnout. Here’s how it worked for me:
1. Bringing in Self-Awareness
The first step in managing burnout is understanding what’s contributing to your stress. Clinical EFT helps you tune in to your emotions and thoughts—and to recognise the underlying beliefs and patterns that keep you stuck. EFT brings these feelings to the surface, making them easier to address.
By tapping through the negative emotions associated with burnout, I started shifting my perspective. This self-awareness became the foundation for making intentional changes to my behaviour and mindset.
2. Calming the Nervous System
When you’re burned out, your nervous system is often in a constant state of fight-or-flight. You might feel anxious, restless, or constantly on edge, like you can’t catch a break. Clinical EFT works by stimulating acupressure points, calming the nervous system, and resetting your body’s response to stress.
This calming effect brings a sense of peace and groundedness. Over time, clinical EFT can train your nervous system to respond more effectively to stress, allowing you to regain control and navigate challenges with more ease.
3. Cultivating Self-Compassion
A common experience of burnout is self-criticism. You might feel like you’re not doing enough or that you’re failing in some way. This harsh inner dialogue only adds to the stress, making it harder to recover. Clinical EFT helps release these negative self-critical beliefs and replace them with self-compassion.
Tapping through these emotions allowed me to acknowledge that I was doing the best I could, and it was okay to take breaks and set boundaries. Self-compassion is a crucial aspect of healing from burnout because it reminds you that you’re human, not a machine, and you deserve care and rest.
4. Clearing Mental Fog and Thinking More Clearly
Burnout often comes with mental fog—that feeling of being unable to think clearly or make decisions. Clinical EFT helps clear the emotional blocks clouding your thinking and hindering your ability to focus.
By tapping, you release the emotional and mental tension weighing you down. This helps shift you from a state of overwhelm to one of clarity. With a calmer nervous system and a clearer mind, you can assess your situation more effectively and create a plan for recovery.
5. Making Lasting Change
After addressing the underlying emotional and mental blocks with clinical EFT, you’re in a better position to make lasting changes. Whether it’s learning to set boundaries, prioritise self-care, or let go of perfectionism, EFT supports you in creating healthy, sustainable habits.
These changes help you build a lifestyle that’s more balanced and aligned with your well-being. You’re no longer trapped in the cycle of endless urgency. Instead, you’re empowered to take control of your life and energy.
Final Thoughts: Clinical EFT as a Powerful Tool for Burnout Recovery

Clinical EFT offers a powerful and effective way to heal from burnout by calming your nervous system, fostering self-compassion, and helping you think more clearly. It allows you to process your emotions, identify limiting beliefs, and shift your mindset in a way that supports lasting recovery.
My personal experience with burnout has inspired me to support others who are going through the same struggles. As a Certified Clinical EFT and Matrix Reimprinting Practitioner, I now help individuals navigate their own paths to recovery and healing from burnout.
