Hands Free Tapping – A Simple Technique For Returning To Sleep

By: Fruzsi Kenez | 1 October, 2026
Categories: Community News

While tapping is famous for its diverse applications, there is a little-known EFT gem that is simple enough for anyone to do anywhere, anytime to help them get back to sleep.  All without moving a muscle.

When I first began tapping on my own sleep issues, I suffered from what I self-diagnosed as ‘racey brain’. After finally getting to sleep, I would wake at the smallest noise and my mind would be off, rehearsing my part in an upcoming workplace presentation or going through my to-do list item by item, with the possibility of returning to sleep slowly slipping away.

If this scenario feels at all familiar to you, this simple technique may be helpful.

EFT For Returning To Sleep

When we think of EFT, we automatically picture fingertips tapping on skin. So when a client proudly told me how she silently tapped when she woke in the night, she had found the only hurdle was not disrupting her husband as she moved through the points. I was proud of her for finding this solution and told her we could do one better.. She could tap in her head!

For a mind as visual as hers, this technique is a match made in heaven.  All she has to do is imagine herself lying in bed, tapping on each point. For someone with aphantasia (the inability to clearly hold an imagine in their mind’s eye), they can simply close their eyes and the points being tapped on, shifting their attention to each part of the body as they go. When I do this, I can feel the points tingling, so I know it's working.

I have found this technique remarkably effective against ‘racey brain’. No words, no set-ups, no ‘even-though’ is needed.

Just closing your eyes, taking nourishing breaths and seeing (or feeling) yourself tapping until you drift off.

Studies have shown that the brain doesn’t know the difference between what is real, and what is imagined. It responds as though it were a fact. Therefore tapping in your mind may just be the invitation your body needs to let go of the anxiety it is holding, and get some much needed rest.
