David Gowans

Accredited Certified EFT Practitioner
If you’re here, something has probably brought you to this point — and whatever that is, you’ve taken a positive step just by looking. You don’t need to have it all figured out before you reach out. That’s what I’m here for.
I’m David Gowans, an EFTi Accredited Certified EFT Practitioner and the founder of Elements of Mind Therapy, based in Inveraray, Scotland. I also hold HCPC registration as a Paramedic, though my EFT practice is entirely separate from that role — more on that below.
My background is probably a little different from most practitioners you’ll come across. I’ve spent 22 years working on the frontline of emergency services — as a police officer and in the ambulance service — responding to trauma, crisis, and acute human distress day in, day out. I continue to work as a Paramedic, and that experience shapes everything about how I work with clients. I understand anxiety, stress, and trauma not just in theory, but as realities I’ve lived and worked alongside throughout my career.
I’m also currently completing a Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy and Life Coaching, with a view to offering an even wider range of therapeutic support to clients in the near future.
I work with a broad range of issues and life challenges, and I have particular experience and specialism in:
• Uniformed and operational services — I have a deep understanding of the pressures that come with uniformed service life — the culture, the cumulative toll, and the difficulty of asking for help. Whether you’re a blue light professional, a veteran, serving in any uniformed capacity, or simply someone struggling with the cumulative weight of the job or life in general — you’ll find a space here that gets it without needing it explained.
• Anxiety and stress — whether it’s a constant background hum, something that stops you in your tracks, or the kind of burnout that comes from running on empty for too long, EFT can help calm the nervous system and shift long-held patterns.
• Phobias — from everyday fears to deeply held phobic responses, EFT is a remarkably effective tool for lasting change.
• Grief and loss — grief is something I understand not just professionally, but personally. I lost my sister to cancer in 2007 and my father in 2021. I know what it is to carry loss, and I offer a compassionate, grounded space to work through grief and loss at your own pace — whatever form that loss takes.
• Chronic conditions and pain — I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in 2023, and I have a firsthand understanding of the emotional and psychological impact of living with a long-term condition. EFT has a growing evidence base around chronic and acute pain, and can be a meaningful support alongside conventional medical treatment.
My approach is practical, straightforward, and built around you. If you’re new to EFT, don’t worry — I’ll guide you through everything fully at the start of our work together, and there’s nothing you need to know or prepare in advance. Sessions are collaborative, we work at your pace, and there’s no pressure to share more than you’re comfortable with. EFT is a gentle but powerful method, and many clients begin to notice a shift sooner than they expected.
I offer sessions both online and in person,
giving you the flexibility to choose whatever works best for you.
As part of my commitment to professional practice, I engage in regular supervision and continuing professional development — so you can be confident that my work is grounded, current, and ethically maintained.
Outside of practice, I’m a husband and father, and I continue to work as a Paramedic — which keeps me well grounded in the realities of both everyday life and the frontline.
If you’re ready to take that next step, I’d love to hear from you.
To make getting started as easy as possible, I offer a free 20-minute initial consultation to all new clients. It’s a no-obligation opportunity to ask questions, get a feel for how I work, and decide whether we’re the right fit — no pressure, no commitment.
Whatever brings you here, you don’t need to have it figured out. We’ll work through it together.
Important Notice Regarding Professional Registration -
