Measuring Physiological Markers of Emotional Trauma: A Randomized Controlled Trial of Mind-Body Therapies

This randomized controlled trial nvestigates whether Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) and Diaphragmatic Breathing (DB) can improve physiological function, measured by shoulder joint range of motion, in individuals with emotional trauma. The study compares EFT, DB, and a no-treatment control group to determine if acupressure is an active ingredient in EFT. The results aim to provide insight into the effectiveness of EFT in treating emotional trauma and its impact on physical function.

Acupuncture May Help Symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder: A Pilot Study

This study compared the effectiveness of acupuncture, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and a wait-list control for treating posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The results showed that both acupuncture and CBT significantly reduced PTSD symptoms, with benefits lasting up to 3 months. This randomized controlled trial suggests that acupuncture may be a promising treatment option for PTSD, but further research is needed to confirm these findings.

Evaluation of a Meridian-Based Intervention, Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), for Reducing Specific Phobias of Small Animals

This study explored whether a meridian-based procedure, Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), can reduce specific phobias of small animals under laboratory-controlled conditions... These findings suggest that a single treatment session using EFT to reduce specific phobias can produce valid behavioral and subjective effects. Some limitations of the study are also noted and clarifying research suggested...

Pre-Hospital Analgesia with Acupressure in Victims of Minor Trauma: A Prospective, Randomized, Double-Blinded Trial

This randomized controlled trial investigated the effectiveness of acupressure in reducing pain and anxiety in trauma patients during emergency transport. In a double-blinded trial, 60 patients were randomly assigned to receive acupressure at true points, sham points, or no acupressure, and results showed that true acupressure significantly reduced pain, anxiety, and heart rate. The study suggests that acupressure is a simple, risk-free, and effective treatment for pain in emergency trauma care that can improve patient satisfaction and quality of care. This acupressure study is included in the EFTi Research Database because it pre-dates known EFT-specific research.

Efficacy of EFT Provided by Coaches vs. Licensed Therapists in Veterans with PTSD

EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) is a validated method for treating posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), available to both lay persons and to licensed mental health practitioners (LMP). It is unknown whether results would be significantly different when EFT is administered by licensed practitioners compared to trained lay coaches... Six sessions of EFT, whether administered by a coach or an LMP is efficacious in treating PTSD among veterans suggesting that EFT provided by lay coaches would be an effective strategy to address PTSD in this population...
