Clinical Emotional Freedom Techniques for Psychological and Physiological Stress Reduction: A Systematic Review and Network Meta-Analysis

This first-of-its-kind systematic review and network meta-analysis of 17 randomized controlled trials (1,000+ participants) found that Clinical EFT produced large reductions in psychological stress—comparable to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy—and small-to-moderate improvements in physiological stress markers. These findings support Clinical EFT as an effective, evidence-based tool for stress reduction, though larger, longer-term studies are needed to confirm how durable the effects are.

Theoretical and Clinical Insights into the Psychological Mechanisms and Active Ingredients of Emotional Freedom Techniques

This article proposes a conceptual framework for understanding the active ingredients and mechanisms underlying Clinical Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), a mind-body therapy used for trauma and stress-related conditions. EFT combines cognitive, somatic, and exposure elements, and its effectiveness is supported by over 200 studies, including randomized controlled trials.

About Face: Is Virtual Group Delivery of Clinical Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) as Effective as Face-to-Face Group Delivery in Improving Psychological and Physiological Markers of Health?

This study compared virtual group EFT to in-person group EFT and found significant improvements in symptoms for both delivery methods, although in-person EFT showed slightly larger improvements. Virtual EFT demonstrated significant reductions in PTSD, anxiety, depression, pain, and increased happiness, with improvements maintained at six-month follow-up.

How Tapping Works: Physiological and Psychological Mechanisms in Energy Psychology Treatments

Energy psychology protocols like EFT tapping have shown efficacy in treating PTSD, anxiety, and depression, with over 200 clinical trials supporting their use. Research reveals tapping generates electrochemical signals, modulating brain regions and biomarkers, making it a non-placebo treatment component.

NHS staff Support Services: An Examination of a Therapeutic Intervention and an Exploration of Staff Experiences of Services

This doctoral thesis examines NHS staff support services, focusing on therapeutic interventions such as Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). EFT is highlighted for its effectiveness in reducing anxiety, depression, and stress among healthcare staff, based on a systematic review of eight studies. The thesis also explores staff experiences with in-house psychological support services, emphasizing the importance of accessibility and tailored care while addressing systemic barriers. EFT is underscored as a promising tool for improving psychological well-being in NHS healthcare settings.

Analysing the Spiritual Effects of Emotional Freedom Technology (SEFT) in Building Psychological Well-Being: Systematic Literature Review

This study is a systematic literature review that examines the psychological well-being effects of Spiritual Emotional Freedom Techniques (SEFT). The intervention involves combining prayer with tapping on specific acupressure points to reduce stress and improve mental health. The review consolidates findings from various sources and concludes that SEFT can effectively enhance psychological well-being and reduce stress levels. Additionally, the study suggests that SEFT could be applied in clinical practice to support patient care.

Complementary Therapies to Reduce Levels of Stress, Anxiety and Depression

This literature review examines the effectiveness of complementary therapies—Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), Prayer Therapy, and Spiritual Emotional Freedom Technique (SEFT)—in reducing stress, anxiety, and depression. The findings indicate that these therapies can be beneficial in alleviating mental health symptoms for certain individuals, combining emotional and spiritual practices to promote well-being. The authors emphasize the need for further research to deepen the understanding of these therapies' mechanisms and broader applications.

Commentary: Emotional freedom Techniques for Treating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder: An Updated Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

This commentary critiques a recent study on Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) for treating PTSD, questioning the study's methods and conclusions. The authors argue that EFT's effectiveness is not strongly supported and may not be a reliable treatment option. They also raise concerns that EFT might distract people from seeking more evidence-based treatments for PTSD.

The Real Reasons Energy Psychology Is Proving to Be Durable: Rejoinder to “Acupressure in Psychotherapy as an Unsinkable Rubber Duck: Reply to Feinstein (2023)”

This article defends Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) against criticism, citing recent studies that show it can change brain activity, hormone levels, and even gene expression. It explains that EFT works by helping the brain update and change negative thought patterns, and that this process can be accelerated through tapping on specific body points. The article argues that EFT's effectiveness is supported by scientific evidence, regardless of its connection to traditional energy concepts.

Six-Month Follow-Up Comparing AIT and EFT in the Reduction of Negative Emotions Associated with a Past Memory

The study compared Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) and Advanced Integrative Therapy (AIT) in reducing emotional distress tied to specific memories. Both interventions showed equivalent long-term efficacy, with significant reductions in Subjective Units of Distress (SUD) scores six months post-treatment. While EFT involves tapping on acupuncture points, AIT focuses on holding hands over chakras, yet both methods effectively address emotional distress through energy psychology principles.

A Perspective on the Identity of the Acupoint

This article reviews the identity of acupoints in East Asian medicine, emphasizing their functional rather than structural nature. It proposes that acupoints are spaces where bioelectricity (qi) congregates and flows, which may explain their ambiguity and challenges in measuring them anatomically or histologically. This perspective bridges traditional concepts of qi with scientific research on bioelectric currents, highlighting the electrical characteristics of acupoints.

Energy Psychology, Bilateral Stimulation, and Mindful Breathing for Trauma and Chronic Pain: A Theoretical Framework and Case History

Research shows that many people with chronic pain also have unresolved trauma, which can make their pain worse. This article outlines a new therapy approach that combines four techniques: Emotional Freedom Techniques (tapping on specific points), bilateral stimulation (like in EMDR therapy), a wholistic approach, and mindful breathing.
