Energy Psychology in the Treatment of Eating Disorders

This book chapter discusses how energy psychology techniques can complement traditional psychotherapy for individuals with eating disorders by addressing the mind-body connection. Two case studies illustrate how energy testing can reveal internal psychological resistance to recovery and help practitioners identify subconscious barriers to treatment. The chapter concludes that energy psychology can be a valuable addition to psychotherapeutic approaches for eating disorders.

Using Energy Psychology to Remediate Emotional Wounds Rooted in Childhood Trauma: Preliminary Clinical Guidelines

This systematic review discusses the development, efficacy, and plausible mechanisms of energy psychology, which combines conventional therapeutic techniques with the stimulation of acupuncture points by tapping on them. Recommendations are offered for using an energy psychology approach at each stage of therapy with individuals who have endured severe or multiple adverse childhood experiences (ACEs).

The Energy of Energy Psychology

The vague or controversial use of the term energy in the clinical subdiscipline known as “energy psychology” has been an obstacle to the field’s acceptance. This paper discusses five forms of energy and explores the role of each in energy psychology treatments, including Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT).

Integrating the Complementary Therapies of Energy Psychology and Dreamwork – the Dream to Freedom Method

This paper explores the integration of dreamwork and Energy Psychology (EP), particularly Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), to enhance the treatment of psychological disorders by addressing unconscious emotional conflicts revealed in dreams. The authors introduce the Dream to Freedom (DTF) method, which uses EFT to process the emotional content of dreams, demonstrating its effectiveness in resolving underlying stressful memories and offering clients actionable insights for emotional healing.

Uses of Energy Psychology Following Catastrophic Events

Energy psychology, which combines acupuncture point stimulation with cognitive and therapeutic techniques, has shown strong effectiveness in over 120 clinical trials for treating PTSD, anxiety, and depression. Applied globally in disaster relief, this approach offers immediate stabilization and long-term benefits for trauma survivors, with growing evidence supporting its efficacy in both individual and large-scale settings.

How Do Energy Psychology Modalities Work? An Energy-Based Theoretical Perspective

Energy Psychology (EP) methods, which harness human energy for therapeutic purposes, lack a fully satisfactory explanation despite their rich evidence base. While biological models have advanced understanding, they fail to address all EP effects, particularly the role of acupoint stimulation. This paper introduces an energy-based perspective, grounded in Tiller’s multidimensional model, aiming to enhance theoretical frameworks and offer a more comprehensive understanding of EP mechanisms, especially regarding acupoint stimulation's function.

Dismantling an Energy Psychology Technique for Communication Apprehension: A Randomized Mixed Methods Trial

This study investigated the effectiveness of two modified Primordial Energy Activation and Transcendence (PEAT) protocols in reducing communication apprehension. Fifty-one participants were randomly assigned to one of three groups: PEAT with acupressure, PEAT without acupressure, or a no-treatment control group. Results showed no significant differences in communication apprehension scores or subjective experiences between groups. However, qualitative feedback suggested that participants perceived the PEAT technique as beneficial. Further research is needed to determine the efficacy of PEAT for communication apprehension.

Do Noncoding RNAs Mediate the Efficacy of Energy Psychology?

This experimental study provides preliminary evidence that Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) may influence microRNA expression, potentially linking psychological interventions to molecular-level changes. Although statistical significance was not achieved after adjusting for multiple comparisons, the downregulation of let-7b and let-7c microRNAs—which have been associated with neuroplasticity and emotional regulation—suggests a possible biological mechanism underlying EFT's effects. These findings support further investigation into the role of noncoding RNAs in mediating therapeutic outcomes, particularly in the treatment of PTSD and other stress-related conditions.

How Tapping into “Energy” Can Trigger a Paradigm Shift in Biomedicine

This article explores how tapping into "energy" concepts can contribute to a paradigm shift in biomedicine. The author discusses the integration of energy-based approaches, such as Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), into mainstream healthcare, emphasizing their potential to enhance healing beyond conventional biomedical models. The commentary examines historical perspectives on life energy, critiques of materialist views in medicine, and emerging research supporting energy-based interventions. It argues that recognizing and incorporating these techniques could lead to more holistic and effective treatment strategies in modern healthcare.

Mindful Energy Psychology: History, Theory, Research, and Practice

This theoretical paper explores the integration of mindfulness practices, which promote acceptance and well-being, with energy psychology, a therapeutic approach that aims to rapidly change the underlying causes of psychological disorders. The author proposes a "mindful energy psychology" approach that combines the two methodologies, potentially resolving the paradox between acceptance and change, and yielding potent therapeutic benefits for conditions such as trauma and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Subjective Dimensions of Meaning in the Clinical Encounter: Unifying Personhood and Disease. Energy Psychology: Theory, Research, and Treatment

This conceptual study critiques biomedicine's dualist approach for ignoring patients' narrative detail and subjective experiences. The author proposes a unitary MindBody philosophy as an alternative framework, integrating mind, body, and story to create a more effective approach for healing and transformation.
