An EFT Tapping client online on Zoom was in crisis, feeling devastated and desperate , crying with misery, frustration and self-blame. I’ll call her Evie, and she has given me permission to share a recent one-hour tapping session.
The issue
Evie is a single mother with a daughter and a son now in their late teens. She has successfully conducted her own business in the wellbeing field over seventeen years, and is both an efficient businesswoman and a skilled empathic practitioner/trainer. In recent years competition in her field has increased. To safeguard her economic future she took a part-time book-keeping job, and has worked at one firm for eighteen months. It was this job that brought her to this session. Evie was sobbing, ‘I keep making mistakes, I feel terrible. I don’t know what to do.’
When this boss employed her the boss had said, ‘Ask questions and you’ll learn our system’. However, whenever Evie asked a question both boss and staff were usually too busy to teach her. So Evie started making mistakes – and got the blame. A year later she still had received no job training.
Her self-esteem was taking a dive every time she went to work. But instead of giving up, Evie worried, and tried everything she could to master this role. She took more vocational training and studied in her spare time. However, as time went on she was ridiculed for asking questions (‘You should know by now’) and in a busy period was even told not to. A client’s situation changed but Evie was not informed, and a big mistake happened. All through Evie’s last four-hour shift she endured her boss harassing her over this in front of the entire office.
By now this sensitive conscientious woman was so demoralised that she could not even think of saying, ‘You said you would teach me but you don’t.’ Instead her mind was flooding with thoughts like ‘I’m no good,’ ‘People don’t like me,’ ‘I can’t do things well…’.
She was sobbing, ‘I feel ashamed, stupid, confused I have to change this.’ Because I know how capable Evie is, I was shocked.
The EFT Tapping process
We had been here before, over years. An apparently good situation would turn against her, leading to people becoming hostile. She was recognising a life pattern. I could see that tapping away the emotions was not the way to help, as the recurring problem would still exist. How could we turn this attack of misery from disaster into a valuable tool?
So I began searching for a causative Specific Event: ‘Evie, just allow these terrible feelings to take you back, way back, to the first time you ever felt like this.‘ (Unlike tappers’ common intellectual question ‘What does this situation remind you of?’, this question focusses on heartfelt emotional truth.) Suddenly Evie became still. She closed her eyes and stayed silent. A change came over her face. I recognised that something profound was happening. This was unexpected. I waited…and waited.
Eyes closed, she said slowly, ‘Where I am, it’s just before I came into my body. It’s my soul.’ She added, ‘I feel terrible. I feel ashamed, stupid, confused.’
As an experienced psychospiritual practitioner, I did feel startled that an incoming being could be suffering, even though many people believe we can ‘bring in’ problems. I said, ‘Just check, do these feelings belong to you or to your mother?’ ‘To me,’ she said. (Later she told me, ‘My soul came into my body during my mother’s morning sickness.’)
Next she calmly stated, ‘I don’t deserve to be loved.’ Ah, here it was, a major stress response… the root of this problem, stated fully, in a spontaneous altered state of consciousness, uniting her familiar stress responses of feeling ashamed and unlovable. Beliefs are self-fulfilling, right? My view was that her statement was a core negative belief, rather than a ‘truth’ she felt her soul was experiencing. With the gift of this statement we did not need to neutralise a Specific Event. I turned to the EFT Change-of-Belief process (Validation of Cognition). Here the client simply keeps stating the negative belief (‘I don’t deserve to be loved’) while tapping down its intensity from 10 (‘True’) to zero.
The turnaround
This process returned Evie to present time. When she acknowledged zero, I asked, ‘How do you feel about yourself now?’ Her face was lighting up, she was beaming. Then she started laughing, with relief and joy. She said with huge conviction, ‘I deserve to be loved and appreciated!’ Yes!!! Here was transformation in fast action.
Only two days later, her lived experience began to improve. She sent me this text: ‘Today I got a new job, going from $30 an hour to $75 an hour! I don’t have to go back to that awful place! Thank you so much!’

Interesting, I work with clients with EFT. At times I have had clients go to their soul and what I believe to be previous lifetimes to clear patterns that keep recurring and are troublesome in this lifetime. It is very interesting what can come up and once cleared ceases to be a problem in this lifetime.

Hi Susan, Thanks for your comment — me too. I have been. a past lifetime regression practitioner for many years, a modality that explores various kinds of transpersonal experience., that offers deep healing. When that level of consciousness appears within EFT practice I know big change for the better is happening…
