After resigning in April 2024 from a deeply enriching and rewarding year as an Interim EFT International Trustee, I retired from my career as an EFTi Trainer of Trainers in May 2025. Since then, I have been writing and re-writing this review which briefly outlines some of the highlights of my EFT adventure that began in 1995 – 31 years ago.
1995 To Now
This 3-part article summarises a few insights from an expansive EFT journey that began in 1995 before EFTi, before AAMET, at a time when EFT was shared through Gary Craig’s VCDs, before the EFT DVDs existed, and long before Levels 1, 2, and 3 EFT training. Back then, Gary Craig, the founder of EFT, was always just a phone call away, ready to answer any question and share his passion.
EFT has seen me through some major life moments, including four miscarriages, the death of my parents, travels abroad, teaching EFT to large groups, achieving long-dreamt-of milestones, car crashes, sharing immense joy, and more recently the death of my darling husband, Eddie. I do not want to imagine my life without EFT.
I believe that learning EFT and practising this amazingly elegant healing art on a daily basis, whether surrogate or on oneself, is an act of service to humanity, whose effects cannot be underestimated. At the moment I am using EFT to understand the implications of AI and to hold space so that as human beings we can explore and step into this next stage of technological evolution with a depth of compassion and wisdom.
EFT has been instrumental in helping me trust myself and the goodness in all things. Nowadays, the extent of my EFT practice is tapping on my fingertips, bringing my awareness to whatever has been niggling me, as I walk along the St. Leonards-on-Sea promenade.
Gratitude
I am grateful to Gary Craig, and my many EFT Teachers and Mentors including, Pat Carrington, Carol Look, the EFTi Trustees (retired and present), Emma Roberts, Sue Beer, Martine Moorby, Jade Barbee, Dr. Rangana Rupavi Choudhuri and especially all our students who are in truth, my teachers.
A Personal EFT Journey
1993 was a dark time in my life. I had had an abortion the previous year, was smoking, drinking heavily, and self-harming. I felt alone, conflicted and constantly confused by life.
By 1995, I was struggling with a debilitating lack of confidence, PTSD, OCD and chronic fatigue. I was in constant pain, hyper-vigilant and incredibly self-critical.
I needed help. I asked God for help. Within 24 hours, two articles came into my hands, one on EFT and the other on Jin Shin Jyutsu.
These two healing modalities helped me steer the Titanic away from the iceberg of impending doom. My EFT Journey began in 1995, the year Gary Craig launched EFT. The funny part is, I began using EFT for weight loss, yet over years of EFT tapping this was not one of my gains (pun intended!) Now, a truly rounded woman, I am finally in love with every wrinkle and curve. I am also centred and aligned in the Self, free from addiction and I love and trust myself. Best of all, I know I have this incredible resource at my fingertips until I kick the bucket.
Some people climb mountains, or dive into arctic seas, run marathons, go to church, paint or sing to break through their negative emotional baggage. I practised EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) and Jin Shin Jyutsu, combined with ancient spiritual practices.
Practice, Practice, Practice Is the Secret to EFT Artistry
I often liken EFT to meditation. I began my meditation journey in 1981; I was 11 years old and decided I wanted to transcend the mind. Little did I know that this would be my undoing and my liberation. Daily, I continue to dive deep into the well of meditation and draw from it nourishing bliss. It gets better with practice and age. Just like EFT.
All healing is about becoming whole, knowing that you are not fragmented or broken, you are perfect and you are loved completely, deeply, infinitely. You can be free from fear. Isn’t this the promise of EFT?
The more I practised EFT, the more I experienced it not just as a technique that gave me Emotional Freedom, but also as a way to reclaim Energy Freedom. If consciousness is energy and energy is consciousness, then wherever my consciousness was limited, I could free it with EFT.
How I Set Up My EFT Practice
After two years of intense study and practice. I started to get a stream of clients via word of mouth, I didn’t charge anyone. I let everyone know I considered myself a student. I was enjoying the EFT honeymoon phase, where every session was miraculous. Gary Craig was easy to speak with if I needed any clarification. I kept reams and reams of notes.
I never specialised. I made myself available, which made me able. My expertise grew with practice. Clients came in waves, with specific projects. They presented issues around sexual abuse, trauma, addictions, deep seated anxiety, chronic fatigue, pregnancy, depression, miscarriages, shame, and financial needs.
It was one of those divinely synchronous things. I was an avid self-helper. I worked on “my stuff” for one to three hours every day as part of my personal peace practice for the first six or seven years. As I cleared or reconciled something in me I would get a rush of clients who presented challenges that mirrored what resolved within me.
In 2002, I began taking on paying clients. I went to health food stores and marketed my services. I made discount vouchers for people that spent over a certain amount. It was a win-win for the customer, the health store, and me – bringing me clients who valued their health. I gave free EFT intro talks to support groups, AA meetings, and wellness centres - anywhere that would have me. I built a thriving EFT practice that attracted international invitations to speak and teach. Soon after, I began training practitioners, which led to me exploring EFT in a myriad of ways.
