Writing my story is a double-edged sword. It feels very exposing on the one hand, and yet by sharing it I hope to show that deep change is possible and to tell a wider audience about EFT and its power to transform lives and heal.
Loss Piled upon Loss
By the time I was 39, my brother, mother, and father were dead. I was divorced and unable to have children. Life felt like one long trail of sadness.
Strangely, these events happened like clockwork every nine years of my life from the age of 14 onwards. Just as I was getting back on my feet, another tragedy or huge life challenge would come again and I would be knocked off course, reeling and wondering how on earth I would overcome the grief and anxiety that held me in their claws. At times, I felt like I would break from the sadness; at others, I lost my faith in a God who seemed unbelievably unkind. It took many years for me to make sense of my life, and it took EFT to finally let go of the sadness and trauma that kept me alone and too scared to move on.
How EFT Brought Me Back to Life
I first came across EFT in 2008, thanks to Emma Roberts, who brought EFT to cancer patients at the breast cancer charity I was then working for. It took another 14 years before I revisited it, and Emma, in 2022. I was suffering from PTSD following the tragic accident that had claimed my mother's life 30 years previously. I had not been able to fully process my feelings about the event, and about losing her at a young age, or to understand some of the more complex aspects of what had happened and who had been involved.
Over the course of five sessions, Emma expertly and safely helped me to process my feelings and grief around what had happened. The work I did with her around my mother's death transformed my approach to life, and I decided to train with Emma and Sue at the EFT Centre in 2022. Since then, I have worked with the wonderful Sejual Shah at Healthy in Mind on my business visibility, and she has helped me with feeling safe in myself and in a new relationship. Her work has been transformational, working with inner safety and processing some aspects of a divorce. Seeing how helpful EFT could be at transforming core beliefs and feelings that I have not previously been able to shift led me to my advanced level training with the lovely Jacqui Footman at EFT Devon.
