(written on the 4th of July)
I just had quite an experience that showed the power of EFT to calm animals. I have two dogs, Shayla and Tony. I live in a small town on the Utah/Arizona border, Kanab, UT. Every fourth of July it is traditional to shoot off about 4 to 6 cherry bomb type fireworks at precisely 6 a.m. Our town is located at the mouth of several canyons and the sound echos throughout the town, the vibrations can be felt in the ground. My dogs are not particularly fond of this tradition and tend to pant, pace and hover close to me, their eating goes off and they are just really nervous.
When I fed them this morning, they showed no interest in eating their breakfast. I set the food bowls down in front of them and they just laid there. I thought then that EFT might help so I declared myself to be Shayla and began the tapping sequence.
Even though I really don't like these big booms and they scare me really bad, I love myself and know I am a good dog...
By the time I got through the first set up, both dogs were up and eating. I continued to tap while they ate. I did two more set ups using basically the same theme:
Even though I don't like this noise, I don't like the way the ground vibrates when they shoot the fireworks off, etc., etc.
I focused on the noise and vibration for the first two rounds of tapping on the points and the third round was focused on feeling safe in their home and with their "mom." By the end of the third round the dogs were licking their bowls clean and now they are peacefully asleep, near me but not pressing against me, and they are not panting or showing any signs of anxiety at all. I also found it to be very interesting that even though I declared myself to "be Shayla" it was completely effective for Tony also.
This information might be helpful to pet owners for future 4th of July's. Pet anxiety on this holiday is high and EFT can really help, immediately. We could also use EFT to help our animals with thunderstorms or any other loud-noise stressors.
love 'n hugs,
Jane
Follow-up:
From the editors: in an email later that evening, Jane gave us this report:
I am sitting here in my living room watching the fireworks out my window. Shayla is lying on the floor, asleep, a little ways away from me. Tony is laying with his body against my leg and is only slightly nervous, panting just a little. The booms can be clearly heard and I'm sure the dogs feel them. It seems the EFT we did this morning is holding just fine. How cool is that!!

Hi Jane,
I have 8 dogs, rescued and fostered. I have some anxiety with 2 seniors and one Bully girl who has degenerative myelopathy. I would love to know how to begin working with all my dogs to reduce their anxiety. It sounds like you’re near my favorite rescue…Best Friends…
Thank you so much. I’m also a addiction counselor.
Sincerely,
Pam
