Summary: A survey of 448 Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) practitioners gathered information on their experiences treating posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in order to develop clinical best practice guidelines. Practitioners reported that EFT can be effective in treating PTSD, with 63% believing that complex PTSD can be remediated in 10 or fewer sessions.
Based on practitioner responses, research evidence, and a meta-analysis, the authors propose a Stepped Care model for treating PTSD with EFT. The recommended treatment protocol includes 5-10 EFT sessions, group therapy, online resources, and social support, with referral for further care if clients do not respond.
