Epigenetic Effects of PTSD Remediation in Veterans Using Clinical Emotional Freedom Techniques: A Randomized Controlled Pilot Study

Summary: This study investigated the feasibility of measuring changes in gene expression associated with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) treatment using emotional freedom techniques (EFT). 16 veterans with PTSD symptoms were randomized into an EFT group or a wait-list control group, and the EFT group showed a significant decline in PTSD symptoms (-53%). The study also found significant differential expression of 6 genes after the EFT intervention, suggesting potential epigenetic effects. The results provide guidelines for further studies exploring the effects of EFT on gene expression and PTSD treatment.
