Skinny Genes’ Six-Week, Online, Clinical Emotional Freedom Techniques Program: Durable Weight Loss and Improved Psychological Symptoms

Summary: A study evaluated the effectiveness of an online program called Skinny Genes, which uses Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) to address emotional eating and promote weight loss. Participants (n=72) showed significant reductions in anxiety (36.8%) and depression (48.5%) after completing the 6-week program, as well as decreased perceived power of food and restraint behaviors. The participants lost an average of 12.9 pounds during the program and an additional 2.6 pounds at 6-month follow-up, with all psychological gains maintained. The study suggests that online EFT programs like Skinny Genes can be effective in promoting durable weight loss and improved mental health, with potential to reach underserved populations.
