The Effectiveness of Emotional Freedom Techniques in the Treatment of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder: A Meta-Analysis

Summary: This meta-analysis examined the efficacy of Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) in treating posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) by analyzing 7 randomized controlled trials. The results showed a large treatment effect, with EFT demonstrating significant effectiveness in reducing PTSD symptoms compared to waitlist or usual care controls. EFT was found to be comparable to other evidence-based therapies, such as eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) and cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), in treating PTSD. The analysis concluded that 4-10 sessions of EFT can be an effective treatment for PTSD with no reported adverse effects.
