The Ultimate Clutter Cleanse – Part 1: Introduction

By: Ingrid Dinter
Categories: EFT Strategies

Benefits of decluttering

Freeing up unwanted stuff has a deeply healing and cleansing effect on us.

As an EFT Master trainer and practitioner, I have often seen that clients shift more quickly when their clutter gets physically released and tossed.  This clutter can store so many memories and inner conflicts in their home.  So much is reflected in our home environment. Our thoughts, beliefs, relationships with others, our ability to work and function, relax and handle our life, our opportunities and expectations. I want to help people to identify those areas in their home and life that need to be addressed.  Quickly and systematically.  Then they can begin to live the life they want.

The Ultimate Clutter Cleanse 4 Quadrant System

gives food for thought for practitioners who want to help clients with a hoarding or clutter problem.  Also some specific starting points.

The overwhelm of clutter

Most people feel instantly overwhelmed when they think about organizing and decluttering.  Even our physical health can suffer due to the stress that 'stuff' can cause us.  There is also the huge mental and emotional impact that it can have on our life style and relationships.

While most of our trauma is emotional and energetic in nature, it can show up in our daily lives and living spaces. In our homes where we can't hide who we are and how we feel. This might be one for the main reasons why so many people feel that they can’t have unannounced guests over.  Or that they should apologize for their home when someone comes to visit.

I have seen people feel so overwhelmed by shame and guilt, that they can't possibly even get themselves to start clearing up and tossing out. They blame themselves for their inability to function, but in reality the suffering is much deeper and it is real.

The good news is that we can use EFT very effectively to quiet that inner chaos, while releasing the memories of judgment or failure. Those hurtful moments when we felt guilty or ashamed.  We can release our attachment to stuff that has outlived its right to be in our home, but that is still triggering us for one reason or another.

No "one size fits all"

It is good to remember that there is no "one size fits all" in clutter cleansing!  What's clutter for some may be a truly beloved and cherished items for others.  What we need to learn and exercise is to understand, on the one hand, when items are truly special to us. Or on the other hand, when they just one of many representations of a person or memory and could easily be let go.

The Ultimate Clutter Cleanse

The goal of the Ultimate Clutter Cleanse is not to give you a cookie cutter “one size fits all” recipe. Rather a roadmap to help you identify your conflicts.  Then you can release the conflicts with EFT, and toss out or move the physical manifestation out of the house.

Please think about this for a moment:

  • When you surround yourself with items you don't love, you surround yourself with energy you don't love.
  • When you surround yourself with stuff that makes you feel guilty or ashamed, you surround yourself with energy that makes you feel guilty or ashamed.
  • When you hold onto things that people gave you, even though you quietly wish they hadn't. This may be a gift from a parent or the inheritance of a piece of furniture you don't like. You quietly have some negative thoughts about these people as they impacted your home, even though you may love them very much.

These negative energies need to go. They are self abusive. They don't help anybody. And they hurt you!

How to start:

You always start with the things that are easiest for you! We all have stuff that triggers our emotions, and might be the biggest contributor to the inner conflicts and overwhelm that we feel. However, the reality is that we might have quite some tolerance for things that we just forgot or overlooked to get rid of. This could be old receipts and paperclips, broken items, buttons, or keys to locks we don't own anymore.

When you look around the house, you will see many, many items, that could be easily tossed without causing a sense of loss or conflict, and it would be a great start. The key here is to create the momentum you need to see results and keep going.

The Ultimate Clutter Cleanse Part 2 will introduce you to The 4 Quadrant System.
